Smart Printer Privacy

Smart Printer privacy policy

Last updated: October 5, 2026

This policy covers the Smart Printer app for Windows, made by Wuxxu s.r.o. It lists exactly what the app keeps on your computer and what leaves it.

The short version

  • There is no Smart Printer account, no sign-in, no ads and no analytics code.
  • Printing sends your document through Windows to the printer you select. Smart Printer does not upload document content to Wuxxu’s servers.
  • The app talks to printers and scanners, to the Microsoft Store, to web pages you ask it to print, and - unless you turn them off - sends crash reports that contain no document, file name, printer name or network address. When a Pro purchase completes it sends us a short purchase report without your name or account.

Who we are

Smart Printer is made by Wuxxu s.r.o., the controller of the personal data described here. Our details are at the end of this page. For anything about privacy, write to [email protected].

What the app stores on your computer

The app keeps its data in its own private storage on your computer: a folder under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages that Windows sets aside for the app and deletes when you uninstall it. It stays there, under your control:

  • Settings: your chosen printer and scanner, scan options, last save folder, printers added in the app, theme, whether to find printers on your network, your Pro plan as the Microsoft Store last reported it (which plan, its end date and when it was checked), when you last ran the troubleshooter, whether you have rated the app and whether the Store’s rating window was open when the app last closed (so a crash there is not repeated), whether the desktop shortcut was created, whether the first-run screens were completed, the crash-report switch and a random install ID.
  • Recent prints: for each of your last 20 print jobs, the document name and type, its file path or web address, the printer, the time and the page count - never the content. Typed text and scans are listed without a source, because their content is not kept.
  • The purchase-report queue (sales-outbox.json): reports waiting until our sales dashboard confirms them, and a history of at most 50 sent or refused reports kept up to 180 days, holding only the purchase-report fields listed below.
  • Logs: up to three files of about 2 MB with printer, scanner and file names, network addresses and the web addresses of pages you open in the app. They never leave your computer unless you send them to us.
  • The browser cache and cookies of web pages you open in the app (WebView2), and queued crash reports (sentry).
  • Temporary files (web pages converted for printing, scanned pages) in %TEMP%\SmartPrinter. Each time the app starts, it deletes leftover temporary files more than a day old.
  • A desktop shortcut: the first time the app starts after it is installed, it puts one shortcut named “Smart Printer” on your desktop. It is never put back if you delete it. Uninstalling the app does not remove that shortcut (Windows does not let an app do that), so delete it like any other shortcut.
  • The licence texts of the open-source components the app is built on, shipped inside the app.

What leaves your computer

  • Printers and scanners: the app finds printers and scanners on your network (mDNS/DNS-SD through Windows’ DNS Client, and WSD through Windows device discovery), asks printers for their status and ink levels (IPP), talks to scanners (eSCL/AirScan and WIA) and, when you run the troubleshooter, tests whether a printer’s address answers (a connection test and ping). This traffic goes to devices on your network and to any printer address you or Windows configured - which can be outside your local network.
  • Printing sends document content through Windows’ print spooler to the printer you select, which may be a network printer or a cloud or virtual printer installed on your PC.
  • Web pages you print are loaded by Microsoft Edge WebView2, which contacts the site and every resource that page loads (images, scripts, fonts, ads and trackers on other sites), like any browser visit. Those sites’ own policies apply, and WebView2 follows Microsoft Edge’s settings.
  • Office documents are handed to the Office app installed on your PC, which prints them.
  • Microsoft Store: licence checks, prices, purchases and the rating prompt go through the Store’s own system, under Microsoft’s privacy policy.
  • Purchase report: when a new Pro purchase completes (not a restored or already-owned one), the app sends us a random ID for the purchase, the app’s Store ID, its name and version, the Pro product’s Store ID, a two-letter language code, the time, which screen the purchase started from and, for a Pro feature, which one. For the lifetime plan it adds the Store’s price, the regular price when the Store reports a sale, the sale flag and the currency; for the yearly plan it sends no amount (a paid year cannot be told apart from a free trial) but marks the amount as unknown, with the currency when the Store gave one. It contains no name, email address, account, device ID or install ID. It goes to our sales dashboard, hosted by Supabase.
  • Crash reports: unless you turn off Settings › Privacy › Send crash reports (it is on by default), the app sends a report when it fails, and a session record each time it starts. A report contains the app version, whether it is the Store build, whether it runs as an installed package, the Windows and .NET versions, the processor type, the interface language, whether Pro is active, a random install ID, the error type, the code locations of the stack trace and the categories of the app’s recent steps - never an error message or log text, documents, file names, printer or scanner names, network addresses or web addresses. Nothing new is sent after you turn it off. Reports are processed by Sentry.
  • Links you click open Windows Settings, the Microsoft Store, your Microsoft account page, this website, your email app or the source code of an open-source component the app uses (on GitHub).
  • Nothing else: the app’s own code makes no other network connections. Windows, WebView2 and the Microsoft Store follow their own settings.

This website

  • The site is hosted by Vercel and delivered through Cloudflare. To deliver and protect it, they process your IP address and technical request data in their server logs.
  • There are no cookies, analytics, ads or tracking. Fonts and images come from this site itself, not from Google or other third parties.
  • Your browser remembers whether you chose Windows or Mac (in local storage). That setting stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
  • Links to the Microsoft Store take you to its pages, which follow Microsoft’s privacy policy.

Support form and email

When you use the support form, we receive what you enter (your name if you give it, your email address, the topic, your printer model if you give it, and the message) together with the page, the site language and your browser type. It is sent to [email protected] through Brevo, our email provider. If you email us directly, we receive your address and what you write.

We use this only to answer you. We never add you to a mailing list or share it with anyone else, and we delete it when it is no longer needed to handle your request, or sooner if you ask.

Legal bases and service providers

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) we rely on: answering the request you sent us, for support messages (Article 6(1)(b)); and our legitimate interest in running, securing and understanding our service, for server logs, purchase reports and crash reports (Article 6(1)(f)).

We use these service providers, who process data only on our behalf: Supabase Inc. (sales dashboard), Functional Software, Inc., trading as Sentry (crash reports), Vercel Inc. and Cloudflare Inc. (website hosting and delivery) and Sendinblue SAS, trading as Brevo (support email).

Your rights

You can ask us for access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, restriction of its use, a copy of it, or object to our use of it: write to [email protected]. Most data the app creates lives only on your own computer, where you can look at it or delete it yourself.

You can also complain to the Czech data protection authority, the Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů (uoou.gov.cz).

Removing your data

  • Recent prints: Home › Recent prints › More options › Clear recent prints.
  • Crash reports: turn off Settings › Privacy › Send crash reports.
  • Everything else the app keeps is in the storage named above; uninstalling the app removes it. Uninstalling the app does not remove that shortcut on your desktop: delete it yourself. Each time the app starts, it deletes leftover temporary files more than a day old. Documents you printed and scans you saved are your files and are not touched.

Children

Smart Printer is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
