Scan & Print Privacy
Privacy policy
This policy covers the Scan & Print apps for Windows and Mac and this website. It is short because we collect very little.
The short version
- There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking on this website. The Windows app sends crash reports, which you can turn off in Settings; they never include your scans. On x64 PCs it also tells Microsoft Advertising about installs, launches, completed Pro purchases and free trials, so we can measure our ads; you can turn that off in Settings too.
- Scanning, editing and text recognition happen on your computer. Your scans are never sent to us or to a cloud service.
- The apps go online only to talk to your scanner, to the Microsoft Store or App Store, to download a text-recognition language you ask for (Windows), to send crash reports unless you turn them off (Windows), to tell Microsoft Advertising about installs, launches, completed Pro purchases and free trials unless you turn that off (Windows, x64 PCs), and to send us a short purchase report, without your name or account, when a Pro purchase completes.
- The only personal data we receive through this website is what you type into the support form.
Who we are
Scan & Print is made by Wuxxu s.r.o., the controller of the personal data described here. Our details are at the end of this page. For anything about privacy, write to [email protected].
What the apps store on your computer
The Windows app keeps its data in %LOCALAPPDATA%\ScanAndPrint; the Mac app in ~/Library/Containers/cz.wuxxu.scantopdfocr. It stays there, under your control:
- Settings: your preferences, save folder, scanners you added by network address, the last scanner you used, your text-recognition language, whether you have Pro, and (Windows) counters that decide when to show the Store’s rating prompt and a random ID for crash reports.
- History: the name, location, date, page count, size, resolution and format of each scan you saved. Not the images, and not any recognised text.
- Logs: up to three files of about 1 MB with error messages, file names and paths, and scanner diagnostics. They never leave your computer unless you send them to us.
- Temporary page images while a scan is in progress, cleared the next time the app starts.
- Windows: text-recognition language files you downloaded, and one desktop shortcut created on first launch. In the x64 version, the ad-measurement code also keeps a random visitor ID in the Windows registry (see below).
What leaves your computer
- Your scanners: the app talks to your scanners over USB or your network (eSCL / AirScan), including any scanner you add by address.
- Microsoft Store and App Store: licence checks, prices and purchases go through the store’s own system, and ratings through the store’s own prompt (on Mac only when you click Rate This App). Microsoft and Apple handle this under their own privacy policies; from them we receive only anonymous, aggregated figures such as installs and average rating.
- Text-recognition languages (Windows only): when you add a language in Settings or choose it while saving, the app downloads it from GitHub (the Tesseract project) or, if GitHub does not answer, from the jsDelivr CDN’s copy of the same files. The request names only the language. The Mac app uses Apple’s on-device recognition and downloads nothing.
- Purchase report: when a Pro purchase completes, the app sends us which app and version, which Pro product, the price and currency, a language or region code, the time, an ID for the purchase (a random ID on Windows, the App Store transaction ID on Mac) and, on Windows, which screen of the app the purchase was started from. The Mac app also sends this for renewals and restored purchases. It contains no name, email address, account or device ID. It goes to our sales dashboard, hosted by Supabase, and we use it only to count sales and see which parts of the app they come from.
- Crash reports (Windows only): unless you turn off Settings › Privacy › Send crash reports (it is on by default), the Windows app sends a report when something goes wrong, and a session record each time it starts. A report contains the app version, Windows version, processor type, interface language, whether you have Pro, a random ID the app creates (not derived from your device or account; deleting the app’s settings makes a new one), and technical details of the error: its type, the stack trace and the app’s own recent step names, with file names and addresses removed. It never contains your scans, file names, folder paths, recognised text, scanner names or network addresses, and no personal details such as your name, email address, IP address (it is not stored) or Windows user or computer name. Reports go to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.), are stored in the EU (Germany) and are kept for at most 90 days. Turning the setting off stops reports and session records immediately; anything already queued may still be sent once.
- Ad measurement (Windows app on x64 PCs only): unless you turn off Settings › Privacy › Share usage analytics (it is on by default), the Microsoft Store version of the Windows app tells Microsoft Advertising (Microsoft Corporation, bat.bing.com) about its first launch, each later launch, each completed Pro purchase and each free trial you start, with the Pro product, price and currency. To do this, Microsoft’s code in the app also reads the Windows advertising ID, which you can turn off in Windows Settings › Privacy & security › General, and keeps a random visitor ID in the Windows registry. Microsoft may receive these reports together with that visitor ID, the advertising ID (if it is on) and, as with any web request, your IP address. We use this only to see which of our ad campaigns lead to installs and purchases. It never contains your scans, file names or document text. Turning the setting off stops it immediately. The Windows app on ARM64 PCs and the Mac app do not do this.
- Nothing else: apart from crash reports and ad measurement in the Windows app, the apps contain no analytics or advertising code. The Mac app contains no crash-reporting or ad-measurement code. Windows and macOS may send crash reports to Microsoft or Apple according to your system settings.
This website
- The site is hosted by Vercel and delivered through Cloudflare. To deliver and protect it, they process your IP address and technical request data in their server logs.
- There are no cookies, analytics, ads or tracking. Fonts and images come from this site itself, not from Google or other third parties.
- Your browser remembers whether you chose Windows or Mac (in local storage). That setting stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
- Links to the Microsoft Store and the App Store take you to their pages, which follow Microsoft’s and Apple’s privacy policies.
Support form and email
When you use the support form, we receive what you enter (your name if you give it, your email address, the topic, platform, scanner model and message) together with the page, the site language and your browser type. It is sent to [email protected] through Brevo, our email provider. If you email us directly, we receive your address and what you write.
We use this only to answer you. We never add you to a mailing list or share it with anyone else, and we delete it when it is no longer needed to handle your request, or sooner if you ask.
Legal bases and service providers
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) we rely on: answering the request you sent us, for support messages (Article 6(1)(b)); and our legitimate interest in running, securing, understanding and promoting our service, for server logs, purchase reports, crash reports and ad measurement (Article 6(1)(f)).
We use these service providers, who process data only on our behalf: Vercel Inc. and Cloudflare Inc. (website hosting and delivery, USA), Supabase Inc. (sales dashboard), Functional Software, Inc., trading as Sentry (crash reports, stored in the EU) and Sendinblue SAS, trading as Brevo (email, France). Ad measurement goes to Microsoft Advertising (Microsoft Corporation, USA), which processes it under its own privacy statement (privacy.microsoft.com). Where data is transferred outside the EU, we rely on the safeguards these providers offer, such as the EU standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Your rights
You can ask us for access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, restriction of its use, a copy of it, or object to our use of it: write to [email protected]. Most data the apps create lives only on your own computer, where you can look at it or delete it yourself.
You can also complain to the Czech data protection authority, the Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů (uoou.gov.cz).
Removing your data
- Your scans: delete them like any other file. Deleting a scan from the app’s History moves it to the Recycle Bin or Trash, so you can still recover it.
- The apps’ own data: delete the folder named above to remove settings, history, logs and temporary files. The ad-measurement visitor ID in the Windows registry is not in that folder; uninstalling the Windows app removes it.
- Uninstalling removes the app. Scans you saved are your files and are not touched.
Children
Scan & Print is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
